ABOUT THE RESEARCH
Artisanry as Pedagogy
Dodi Mohammed's current PhD research examines shoe artisanry as a legitimate educational discipline — one that integrates technical training, entrepreneurial development, and creative identity formation within a unified pedagogical framework.
The Certificate in Shoe Making Artisanry is both the foundation and the testing ground for this work. Certified by the City & Guilds of London Institute, the programme demonstrates that artisanry is not a lesser path, but a rigorous, intellectually demanding field of study with its own epistemology and its own criteria for excellence.
This research contributes to broader conversations about:
- The place of practice-based disciplines within higher education
- Alternative models of creative entrepreneurship
- The cultural and economic value of the made-to-order economy
